Privacy Policy

PopMyVideo is published by Cats Build Ltd trading as ThinkingCats ("we", "us", "our"). PopMyVideo is a mobile video app that helps you turn raw clips into polished social content by adding auto captions, motion graphics, and AI visual and sound effects on top of your footage. This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use PopMyVideo for iOS and Android (com.thinkingcats.catcut).
By using PopMyVideo, you agree to this policy and our Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
In-app consent: Before cloud AI analysis or generation runs, PopMyVideo shows a consent screen that explains what is sent and which third-party providers receive it. You can browse projects without agreeing; AI features ask for consent when you use them. Revoking consent in Account stops cloud AI until you agree again.
Information we collect
Account information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address
- A unique user identifier
- Authentication credentials (stored securely by our auth provider; we do not store your password in plain text)
Account sign-in is provided by Supabase.
User content
When you use the app, you may provide:
- Video clips stored on your device
- Project data (effect settings, edits) stored locally on your device
- Exported videos you choose to save or share
Video files and projects stay on your device. We do not sync projects to the cloud or store your video library on our servers.
Photos and videos on your device
- Import: You choose one video at a time through the system file picker (Files or, on iOS, your photo library). Only the clip you select is copied into the app. We do not scan or upload your entire photo library.
- Export: If you save a finished video, it is written to your photo library (or shared via the system share sheet) at your request.
- Permissions: iOS may ask for photo library access to import a selected video and/or save an export. You can deny access and still use other parts of the app, but import from the library or save-to-Photos will not work without the relevant permission.
Cloud AI processing
Your full video files and projects stay on your device. We do not upload your entire video library, re-encode your clip in the cloud, or sync projects to the cloud.
When you use AI features, the cloud returns animation code — a lightweight effect spec for captions, graphics, and motion — not a regenerated video. Your phone composites that spec onto your footage locally during preview and export.
To generate that spec, we send only derived content from the clip you are editing to third-party AI providers:
What we send
- Compressed frames derived from your video
- Trimmed audio segments from your video
- Text prompts you enter and technical metadata needed to generate effects
Who receives it
- Google Gemini (Google LLC) — receives compressed frames and trimmed audio from your clip for shot analysis, effect planning, and visual effects (VFX) generation
- fal.ai — receives text prompts only (not your video or audio). Our server sends prompts to fal.ai to generate sound effects. fal.ai may use subprocessors such as ElevenLabs or Lyria
Compressed frames, trimmed audio, and other content sent for AI processing are deleted as soon as processing completes. We do not retain your video content on our servers after a job finishes. We do not use your content to train public AI models on your behalf.
Revoke consent: Account → Revoke AI access clears consent on this device. You stay signed in; cloud AI stops until you agree again on your next AI action.
Purchase information
If you subscribe to Creator or Pro, payment is processed by Apple App Store (iOS) or Google Play Billing (Android). We receive subscription status through RevenueCat (entitlement and renewal state tied to your account). We do not receive or store your full payment card number.
Subscriptions are auto-renewing. Billing, renewal timing, cancellation, free-trial terms, and refunds are governed by the store where you subscribed and are described in our Terms of Use.
Usage data
We record usage events to enforce monthly effect allowances and improve reliability, including:
- Feature type (e.g. captions, VFX, SFX, shot analysis)
- Timestamps and quota debits
- Error and job status for generation requests
We do not use this data for advertising. We do not sell your personal information.
How we use information
We use your information to:
- Authenticate you and manage your account
- Process AI features you request (captions, VFX, SFX, shot analysis)
- Enforce subscription plans and monthly effect limits
- Process subscriptions and restore purchases
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, and fix bugs
- Comply with legal obligations
How we share information
We share information only with service providers that help us operate the app:
| Provider | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Authentication and database |
| Google Cloud Run | Hosting our cloud processing service |
| Google Gemini | AI analysis and VFX generation (receives derived video frames and audio) |
| fal.ai | Sound generation from text prompts only (no user video or audio) |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management |
| Apple App Store | Billing and subscription fulfillment (iOS) |
| Google Play | Billing and subscription fulfillment (Android) |
We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights, users, or safety.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
Data retention
We follow a no-retention approach for video and AI processing data:
- Compressed frames, trimmed audio, and AI processing payloads are deleted as soon as each job completes. We do not keep copies on our servers.
- Video files and projects remain on your device under your control. We do not sync projects to the cloud. Uninstalling the app removes local app data.
- Account data (email, user id, subscription state) is kept only while your account is active so you can sign in and use paid features.
- Usage records (effect counts, timestamps for quota enforcement) are kept while your account is active and removed when you delete your account.
Your choices and rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent
Delete your account in the app: Account → Delete account & data. This removes your account, billing linkage, and usage history from our servers. Local projects on your device are also cleared.
You can also contact us at the email below for access or deletion requests (for example if you cannot sign in).
You can cancel subscriptions anytime in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions (iOS) or Google Play → Subscriptions (Android). Account deletion does not cancel store billing. See our Terms of Use for full subscription terms.
Children's privacy
PopMyVideo is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) for data sent to our servers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. By using the app, you consent to such transfers subject to applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

- Data collected: Email, user IDs, product interaction, photos or videos (user-selected clip import, export to Photos, and derived frames/audio sent for AI processing), purchase history (via App Store/RevenueCat)
- Photos or videos: Declare App Functionality for (1) reading the user-selected import clip via the system picker, (2) saving exports to Photos, and (3) derived frames/audio sent for cloud AI — linked to the user, not used for tracking
- Data linked to you: Yes (account, user-selected video content and AI processing, subscriptions)
- Data used to track you: No
- Purpose: App functionality, account management
- Third-party sharing: Google Gemini (derived video frames and audio); fal.ai (text prompts for sound generation)
- Encryption: Data encrypted in transit
- Deletion: In-app Account → Delete account & data; email fallback for locked-out users
